Effects of Music Therapy on The Social Activities of Low-Income Class Children

Abstract

|
This study was done to evaluate the effects of music therapy on the ability of children from low-income class to adapt to the society to which they belong. The program of the therapy is designed to provide the enjoyment to the children who are unsatisfied to their environment and to increase the ability to express their mood without hesitation. The children were from W welfare center of Iksan, Jeonbuk and belonged to the class with monthly income below one and half million Won. Sixteen children participating to this program received totally 12 music therapies. The statistical analyses of this study shows that the music therapy program of this study significantly increased the social ability composed of sociality and open-mindedness of the children from low-income class. Based on this study, we conclude that music therapy might be helpful to those children who have social, cultural and psychic deprivation problem and are exposed to complex and dangerous problems.
